What age should you start NMN?
On this page
NMN is sold for adults, and the human trials I have read enrolled adults aged 20 to 65. The dose does not change with age or sex: our Pure NMN is one 500mg capsule a day whether you are 30 or 70. What changes as you get older is how much medication you are likely to take, so that is the thing to check first.
Who the NMN trials included, by age
| Study | Ages | Daily dose |
|---|---|---|
| Fukamizu and colleagues, Scientific Reports, 2022 | 20 to 65, men and women | 1,250mg for up to 4 weeks |
| Yi and colleagues, GeroScience, 2023 | 40 to 65 | 300, 600 or 900mg for 60 days |
| EFSA safety opinion, 2026 | Adults, excluding pregnant and breastfeeding women | Up to 300mg assessed |
None of these studied children, and NMN is not for under-18s.
Is there a best age to start NMN?
No trial has compared starting NMN at different ages, so nobody can tell you the right age. Be wary of any site that says you should start at 25, or that it is pointless after 60. Both are guesses dressed as advice.
NMN over 50: check your medicines first
Most people in their 50s and beyond take at least one prescription medicine, and that is the main reason to speak to a GP or pharmacist before starting. Our guide to NMN and medication covers levothyroxine, warfarin, statins, blood pressure medicine, antidepressants and metformin, with the NHS advice for each.
Is NMN different for men?
No. The dose is the same for men and women, and the trials above included both. Our guide for women covers the extra checks around pregnancy and hormone medicine.
