NMN capsules vs powder vs sublingual: which format to choose

By Mathew Stuckey · Updated · 2 min read

NMN capsules give you the same measured dose every day with no weighing. NMN powder is usually cheaper per gram, but you need fine scales to measure it and it has to be kept dry once opened. Sublingual NMN is held under the tongue until it dissolves. I haven’t found a published human trial showing that one format works better than another, so choose on dose accuracy, convenience and cost.

Is sublingual NMN better than capsules?

Some brands say sublingual or liposomal NMN is absorbed better. I haven’t found a published human trial that compares sublingual NMN with capsules at the same dose and shows that. Absorption claims for NMN are also not authorised in Great Britain, which is why you won’t see one from us.

Sublingual is a sensible choice if you find capsules hard to swallow. Just be ready for the taste, because you get all of it.

How do you measure NMN powder?

A 500mg dose is half a gram. Most kitchen scales only measure to the nearest gram, so they can’t weigh it. You need jewellery scales that read to 0.01g. Scoops that come with powders vary, so check yours against the scales before you rely on it.

Does the format change how you store NMN?

Yes. Loose powder is exposed to the air every time you open the bag, so reseal it straight away and keep it somewhere cool and dry. Capsules protect the powder inside between doses. Our guide to storing NMN covers fridges, heat and travel.

Can you open an NMN capsule?

Our Pure NMN is meant to be swallowed whole. NMN Complex uses delayed-release HPMC capsules, so don’t open those: swallow them whole. Our Can I take NMN with…? checker covers this and 57 other questions.

Why we only sell capsules

We sell NMN as capsules because a fixed dose with nothing to weigh is what most people stick with. Our Pure NMN is one 500mg capsule a day, from 49p a day on the 6 month pack.
